Grech was born in Żejtun in 1975. He studied history at the University of Malta and in 2022 read for his Doctorate in Maltese Studies. Grech is currently an Assistant Head at a local primary school. He is the founder of Poeżijaplus, was the first Executive Director of the National Book Council and was Secretary and President of the Maltese Literary Association.
Grech is the editor of the series ‘Bejn Storja u Miti’, which are works focusing on Maltese personalities who in one way or another contributed to Maltese history. These include Duminku Mintoff, Monsinjur Victor Grech, L-Avukat Herbert Ganado, Fr Hilary Tagliaferro, L-Avukat Eddie Fenech Adami, Mabel Strickland, Marie-Louise Colerio Preca, Trevor Zahra, and Giovanni Bonello.
However, it is his autobiographical works that are closest to Grech’s heart. U Tisbaħ Missier (2021) speaks about Grech’s experience of fatherhood – the first such memoir in Maltese literature. It exposes the simple and yet complex aspects of transitioning into the role of a father, and the continual challenges – which, in hindsight, can be viewed with humour. Another very personal piece is Ħallejtna bħall-Erbgħa fost il-Ġimgħa (2022), which sees Grech explore his feelings around the death of his father. He thus continues on the theme of fatherhood, this time with a more philosophical bent, as he also questions what it means to have a dignified end.
His most recent publication, in 2024, was the biography of Pawlu Mizzi, the founder of Klabb Kotba Maltin – Pawlu li naf jien: Tifkiriet ta’ nies qrib Pawlu Mizzi (2024). As much of his work is research-based, Grech is also trying out different modes of writing. He is currently working on some literary short stories which he hopes to publish in the near future.
