Turner has written a lot for television, having been features producer for Education22 (2007-2010), co-ordinator of the children’s programme Kun Int on One TV, and assistant producer for a family programme on Family TV. She continues to contribute to televised programmes as a script writer and writes lyrics for the theatre in both Maltese and English. She became a member of the National Book Council in 2005, and was awarded the Ġieħ San Ġiljan honour for her writing and creative projects in 2021.
Turner was born in St Julians in 1974. She graduated with a B.A. in Psychology, French and Maltese, and obtained a P.G.C.E. in P.S.C.D. She spent much of her career as a P.S.C.D. and drama teacher, two subjects which she is very passionate about. Because of her line of work she also completed various courses in drama and performance therapy, including courses hosted by Sedqa.
Turner is the author of over twenty educational or self-help books for children. Although she is no longer teaching in schools, she is still very much a teacher at heart and organises and hosts various creative writing workshops with the National Literacy Agency. What Turner aspires to share with the public is the way dance, spirituality and writing - particularly poetry - can help people get to know themselves better. This she does through her writing and other creative endeavours.
It is the creative and personal experience which is most important to her – to be grateful for all that we come to experience and to be able to appreciate one’s life from different perspectives. This, in her view, is our humanity, what allows us to empathise, to communicate and also to show a sense of responsibility for oneself and the community. It is our experiences, as different and as shared as they may be, which connect us. In her writing, Turner also explores our ability to listen to our inner voice and attempt to understand it.
In her latest works, K.O.S.T.A. and OPANZA, Turner returns to these lessons of appreciation for what is around us, how nature teaches us through its beauty and its hardships, along with the common thread connecting all her works: self-discovery. Turner is currently working on a storybook for preschool children.
